Frommer's Review
The Kong family, owners of Nona Lani Cottages in Kihei, have with loving care turned this old plantation home into a tiny oasis in the midst of this economically challenged area. Keep in mind these are frugal, budget accommodations -- really an alternative to a youth hostel. However, it's immaculately clean, and the Kongs have made extensive renovations. The four bedrooms -- each with twin beds, a small refrigerator, a dresser, and a closet -- share two bathrooms. It's like staying in a family home, with a shared kitchen (no stove, but microwave, griddle, coffeemaker, and so on) and shared common room with television and comfy sofas. The front yard sports a barbecue and picnic area. The only drawback is that Happy Valley is not exactly a resort area -- public housing is just across the street. But for those on extremely tight budgets, it's a good option.
Facilities:
Shared kitchen; coin-op washer/dryers
