Hotel Playa Mazatlán Review

The most happening place on this stretch of the Zona Dorada, the rustic Hotel Playa Mazatlán remains enduringly popular with families, tour groups, and regulars who return annually for winter vacations or spring break. The quietest rooms lie in the four-story section surrounding the well-tended interior gardens; those by the terrace restaurant and beach can be noisy. The north tower rooms and suites were being remodeled as of press time. All rooms are decorated in bright colors, with dark-wood furnishings and colonial accents. The beach is one of the liveliest in town. The hotel hosts a popular Mexican fiesta on Saturday at 7pm and a fireworks display on Sunday. Also at the Hotel Playa Mazatlán, Sendero Mexico (www.senderomexico.com) operates EduVentura, an evolving recreation center that includes waterfalls and ponds, climbing walls, two exciting 120m (400-ft.) Zip Lines, and a traditional Temazcal -- a beautiful pre-Hispanic traditional sweat lodge.

Facilities:
2 restaurants; bar; gym; advanced recreation center; room service; 3 outdoor pools; 2 outdoor whirlpools; watersports equipment rental

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
