Several of the high-altitude lakes and streams up here, including Laguna Mucubají and Laguna La Victoria, are well stocked with brown and rainbow trout. The season runs from mid-March through September. You'll need to get a permit from the Ministry of Agriculture and Renewable Resources (MARN), Avenida Urdaneta near the airport (tel. 0274/263-7166), for around $25. For a modest service charge, most tour companies in town can get the permit for you, saving you some hassle.
