Walking into Hookah Santa Fe is like entering a luxurious riad, yet one in the middle of Mexico City, where drinking is not only legal but a duty ( the array of cocktails here is mind-boggling). The Santa Fe location is the latest addition to the Grupo Hookah chain, which also has bars in Condesa (Campeche 284), Satellite (Pafnuncio Padilla 26 & 28) and Anzures (just to the east of Polanco at the corner of Kepler & Darwin). As the newbie, the Santa Fe location is a bit more hip, upscale, and fashionable. Its furnishings are an elegant mix of Middle East meets modern Mexico City: leather-covered chairs, hand-knotted Berber-style rugs, amber-colored lighting. It all matches the menu at this restaurant-nightclub, which offers a fusion of Middle Eastern and Mexican food. There are more than 25 different flavored herbs to smoke, either in a VIP room, a main open area, or on the terrace where you can get a great view of the city. Two tables with open fires in the center of the terrace become the most coveted spaces, especially on breezy evenings. Western hip-hop and other top 40 hits play throughout the day; the DJ spins tunes at night starting around 10:30pm. Book in advance if you want a table on the terrace.
