Frommer's Review
Long one of the capital's leading hotels, the Camino Real is itself a work of art, set amid Mexico's finest museums. A perennial favorite, it remains one of the capital's top spots for business and social entertaining, and frequently sells out. Designed by renowned architect Ricardo Legorreta, the building is a classic example of contemporary Mexican architecture; over 400 works of art by Mexican masters and other celebrated contemporary artists complement the design. A stunning Rufino Tamayo mural, Man Facing Eternity, greets visitors as they enter, a mural by José Luis Covarrubias graces the La Huerta restaurant, and an impressive sculpture by Alexander Calder dominates the foyer. The spacious rooms, all with brightly colored decor and a sitting and desk area, contain armoires that conceal the TV and minibar. Executive Club rooms come with bathrobes; rates here include continental breakfast, evening cocktail hour, and daily newspaper. The hotel is also home to a branch of the trendy China Grill restaurant, the 24-hour Bice Bistro, and the first Le Cirque restaurant outside of the U.S. The lobby's "Blue Lounge" -- a water-themed space with cascading waterfall and chairs set on an acrylic floor over a pool -- occasionally features live music.
