Review of La Casa de las SirenasThis old-school bar serves over 200 types of tequila, one of the widest selections available anywhere (the best of the best are part of the selección suprema). It's well known for its friendly bar crowd and ambience, and there's live piano music on weekends. Housed in a 17th-century colonial building, the "House of Mermaids" features a courtyard filled with flowering plants and trees, and lies almost in front of the Templo Mayor in the Centro Histórico. There's also a charming restaurant on the floors above. The bar's open Monday through Saturday from 1 to 11pm, Sunday from 1 to 6pm. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
