Palme d'Or ReviewDon't be fooled by the ornate setting -- yes, it's rich, yes it's fancy, oozing with Old World elegance, but the cuisine and the service is far from stuffy. Hailed by many as the city's top restaurant, Palme d'Or's New French cuisine is made utterly delicious and accessible via a unique tasting menu showcasing innovative interpretations of classic Continental cuisine, featuring exceptional local ingredients with specialties flown in directly from France and elsewhere. You can order a la carte, but we suggest you go with the prix-fixe menus -- three plates at $42, four plates at $54, or five plates at $70. And choosing is tough with Chef Philippe Ruiz's genius in the form of dishes such as pan-seared Hudson Valley foie gras with caramelized mango and Badiane spice sauce; grilled buffalo tenderloin with potato boulangere and wild mushroom sauce; roasted white sturgeon filet with carrot coulis, Masala spice and Sevruga caviar; braised short ribs with farro risotto, shallots, and carrot confit in a red wine reduction; and grilled rack of lamb with Caribbean-style sweet potato mousseline, chayote, and aged rum sauce. Service is equally exceptional, almost seamless, making this one of Miami's best, if not the best, upscale dining experiences which, in light of other city restaurants of lesser quality and higher prices, is a deal in comparison. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
