Grillfish Review

The Cher of South Beach seafood spots, Grillfish is one of the city's longest lasting, and, frankly, most well preserved. From the beautiful Byzantine-style mural and the gleaming oak bar, you'd think you were eating in a much more expensive restaurant, but Grillfish manages to pay the exorbitant South Beach rent with the help of a loyal following of locals who come for fresh, simple seafood in a relaxed but upscale atmosphere. The servers are friendly and know the menu well, as well they should. It's a simple one with a selection of mostly seafood starters -- have the mussels or the blackened Grillfish cakes, and main courses of seafood over pasta, grilled or sautéed seafood with a side of corn on the cob, choice of sweet onion or creamy garlic tomato sauce and side of pasta, or three meat dishes -- filet mignon, New York strip, or surf and turf. Stick to the fish, especially because, at these prices, it's worth a visit to try some local fare, including mako shark, swordfish, tuna, marlin, and wahoo.

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
