National Hotel Review

Sceney it's not, but scenic? Absolutely. With its towering ceilings, sultry furnishings, and massive gilded mirrors, the elegant 1940s-style National is a Deco darling. At 11 stories, the main building offers grand views of the ocean. Guest rooms and suites were designed as a tranquil and elegant refuge from bustling South Beach. Rooms are divided into two distinctive buildings: the Historic Tower and the Cabana Wing, which feature their own balconies overlooking the spectacular Infinity Pool. While all the rooms in the main hotel are comfortable and plush, the best rooms are the 32 ultramodern poolside cabana rooms. The hotel's historic Deco lobby is a rarity in a town where all vestiges of the good old days have given way to sterile minimalism. The pool, however, is the hotel's crown jewel. It's Miami's longest pool (205 ft.) and almost too sleek (rivaling even the Delano's pool) for splashing.

Facilities:
Restaurant; 2 bars; concierge; exercise room; large outdoor pool; room service; watersports equipment/rentals

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
