The Hotel ReviewKitschy fashion designer Todd Oldham whimsically restored this 1939 gem (formerly the Tiffany Hotel) as he would have restored a vintage piece of couture. He laced it with lush, cool colors, hand-cut mirrors, and glass mosaics from his ready-to-wear factory, then added artisan detailing, terrazzo floors, and porthole windows. The small, soundproof rooms are very comfortable and incredibly stylish, though the bathrooms are a bit cramped. Nevertheless, the showers are irresistible, with fantastic rain showerheads. There's no need to pay more for an oceanfront view here -- go up to the rooftop, where the hip and funky Spire Bar and pool are located, and you'll have an amazing view of the Atlantic. The hotel's restaurant, Wish, is one of South Beach's best and most beautiful. New to the hotel: an oceanfront addition of 20 new deluxe rooms and suites, including two new 850-square-foot oceanfront terrace suites located at 800 Ocean Dr., above News Café. Oldham-designed rooms feature warm tones of browns, grays, and orange; flatscreens; glass-enclosed showers with oversized shower heads; thick windows to block out the inevitable noise; and separate rates -- $225 to $415 off season; $265 to $545 in winter. The addition shares facilities with its sister property. Facilities: Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
