Getting a room with a water view is a wonderfully easy task in Michigan, whether it's a lakeside cabin, a B&B near the beach, a modern hotel in Detroit, or a campsite in one of the state's 100 parks. Chain hotel options are abundant as well, and all can be found under the lodging tab on the Travel Michigan website (www.michigan.org). You can even rest your head in one of Michigan's lighthouses-turned-B&B, the newest of which is the Jacobsville Lighthouse Inn (tel. 906/523-1437), on the Upper Peninsula's Keweenaw Bay. Built in 1869, you can still climb the 60 steps to the lighthouse's tower where the view of Lake Superior is, well, superior. Also new is the Marina Grand Resort (tel. 269/469-9900; www.marinagrandresort.com), a 65-unit waterfront condominium hotel in New Buffalo with an indoor pool, fitness room, marina, and a restaurant that overlooks Lake Michigan.
