Restaurants

In addition to the eateries listed below, Middlebury possesses an abundance of delis, sandwich shops, and the like -- perfect for a quick lunch or a picnic.

Among the best are Noonie's Deli (tel. 802/388-0014), in the Marble Works complex, the locals' choice for sandwiches; Taste of India (tel. 802/388-4856), hidden away down 1 Bakery Lane, with inexpensive lunch specials; and American Flatbread (tel. 802/388-3300), also in the Marble Works, open Friday and Saturday evenings only from 5 to 9pm, and cooking some of the best pizzas I've tasted. All offer takeout. There's also a small, good natural-foods store, Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op (tel. 802/388-7276), at 1 Washington St. just uphill from The Middlebury Inn, open daily from 8am until 7pm.
