Waybury Inn ReviewPhotos of Bob Newhart and "Larry, his brother Darryl and his other brother, Darryl," grace the wall behind the desk at this 1810 inn. This inn was featured in the classic TV show Newhart -- the exterior, anyway. (The interior was created on a Hollywood sound stage.) The architecturally handsome Waybury has loads of integrity in a simple, farmhouse sort of way. Rooms vary in size, as they do in most old inns; the more you pay, the more space you'll get (three of the rooms are considered suites, with enhanced amenities such as four-posted king beds, Jacuzzis, or claw-foot tubs). This inn is close to the road, thus its front-facing rooms can be a bit noisy at night from highway noise; the two attic rooms are cozy, if a bit darker and more garretlike. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
