Frommer's Review
Perhaps Milan's most intimate luxury hotel, the Grand Hotel et De Milan balances family management with refined service in an 1863 building. It's perfectly positioned between La Scala (3 blocks away) and the shopping of Via Montenapoleone just up and across the street. The bathrooms are done in marble, rooms feature king-size beds and heavy curtains, chipped stone floors, elegant upholstered furnishings, and muted skylight domes. "Deluxe" rooms are larger than "classic" rooms and have genuine antiques. The suites genuinely feel like small apartments rather than hotel rooms with their homelike arrangement of antiques and piped-in opera (perhaps something by Maria Callas, once a regular guest). The presidential Giuseppe Verdi suite is preserved with the same furnishings as when the composer spent his last 30 years here (he even died in this room), including the desk upon which he composed many operas.
