Park your car in the first convenient parking lot and walk into the center of town -- don't attempt to drive. Other than the above-mentioned Marktplatz, the main attraction in town is Schloss Miltenberg [ST]. (Be warned in advance that this castle is sometimes identified simply as "Miltenberg.") Don't expect a rich tour of a medieval-looking interior, as all but a fraction (a cafe) of the castle's inside has been closed for a long-standing series of renovations. You can visit the courtyard, however, and climb to the top of a watchtower for a sweeping view over the surrounding forest. The courtyard, the tower, and the cafe that's associated with the site are open only May to October Tuesday to Friday 2 to 5:30pm, Saturday and Sunday 1 to 5:30pm. Admission costs 1.50€ ($2.40) adults and 1€ ($1.60) for children 11 and under.
During your exploration of Miltenberg, don't overlook the oldest and most historic bar in town, a 500-year-old hangout that locals refer to simply as Weinhaus, Marktplatz 185 (tel. 09371/5500). Here, every evening between 5:30pm and midnight, you can order any of the local vintages, at a per-glass price of 2€ to 6€ ($3.20-$9.60).
