Frommer's Review
In 2006 the already stellar MIA unveiled a new 113,000-square-foot museum expansion and renovation that increased its exhibition space by nearly 40% and added 34 new galleries. The new space allows the MIA to host more temporary art exhibits, and to display a larger portion of its nearly 100,000-piece permanent collection of fine and decorative art. More than 5,000 years of history are represented in the new museum space, including a 2,000-year-old mummy, European masters (Rembrandt, Titian, and Monet, among others), and a comprehensive photography exhibit. If you're short on time, ask for the "Highlights" brochure. Allow 2 hours.
