Hosteria Giusti ReviewFounded in 1605 as Salumeria Giusti and standing within the walls of an old slaughterhouse, this is said to be the oldest deli in the world. There are only four tables and some antiques furnishing the place. In summer, four more tables are placed outside and surrounded by pots of grapevines. The street on which it sits is a medieval lane, with an 18th-century tower and the Church of St. George. We are especially fond of their homemade pasta, pappardelle with duck, or their tagliatelle with streaky bacon. Other specialties are a capon broth tortellini, or pigeon flavored with balsamic vinegar. A signature dish is the plate of stuffed pigs' trotters with lentils. Worth the trek across town is cotechino fritto con zabaione based on a recipe from the 17th century. This is an Italian fresh pork sausage that is creamy and delicate in flavor. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
