Planning a Trip

Getting There -- No rail lines extend to Mondsee. Most visitors travel by train to either Salzburg or Strasswalchen, a town conveniently on the main line between Salzburg and Vienna. For rail information, contact tel. 05/1717 (www.oebb.at). Buses depart from the railway station in Salzburg every hour throughout the day (trip time: 50 min.). From Strasswalchen, about half a dozen buses head south every day for Mondsee (trip time: 35 min.). From Salzburg, drivers head east on the A-1; from Linz, they go west on the A-1.

Visitor Information -- The tourist office (tel. 06232/4070) is in the town center at Dr. Franz Müllerstrasse 3. It's open year-round Monday to Saturday 8am to noon and 1 to 6pm. It's also open Sunday 8am to 7pm in July and August.
