Frommer's Review
One of the top dining rooms in Montego Bay, within an also-recommended resort that's one of the most legendary in Jamaica, this place has attracted a smattering of celebrities with its sophisticated surroundings. To reach the dining room, you'll have to pass through the resort's open-air reception area and proceed along a winding path through a garden. Part of the fun here involves a pre-dinner drink within a bar that evokes the mahogany walls and clubby accessories of an upscale country club. (Ralph Lauren designed the bar's decor, taking care to retain the framed photographs of many of the celebrity visitors of the past 50 years.) Dinner is served on either an outdoor terrace perched above the surf or (during inclement weather) under an open-sided breezeway. The menu changes nightly, offering an array of well-prepared dishes, from Mediterranean to Jamaican, from American to Italian pastas. For example, shrimp and pasta Caribe is sautéed with chopped herbs, cream, and wine; and Rasta pasta is tossed with vegetables and basil. Caribbean veal is stuffed with spicy crabmeat and seared, and the catch of the day is served jerked, broiled, Cajun-blackened, or steamed with butter, herbs, and ginger. Other, more classic dishes, include rack of lamb, pan-seared scallops, or medallions of lobster sautéed with cream and served over fettuccine. Afternoon tea and sandwiches are served daily, without charge, at 4pm. Three nights a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), the evening meal is conducted as a series of upscale buffets, some of them presented, replete with elaborate table settings and even more elaborate food presentations, from tables and chairs set directly on the sands of the beach.
