The Tryall Club ReviewThis is a top choice for vacationers who are serious about golf and who want the privacy and isolation of a private cottage surrounded by verdant landscaping and good security. With more spacious grounds than almost any other Jamaican hotel, this stylish and upscale resort sits 19km (12 miles) west of town on the site of an 880-hectare (2,200-acre) former sugar plantation. It has neither the fine beach of Half Moon, nor the elegant house-party atmosphere of Round Hill, but nonetheless, it's one of Jamaica's grandest resorts. The property lies along a 2km (1 1/4-mile) beachfront and is presided over by a 165-year-old Georgian-style great house. Throughout, you'll find a deep respect for golf, with many important tournaments played on the rolling greens of the resort's top-notch golf course. The accommodations in luxurious villas are decorated in cool pastels with English colonial touches. Each is artfully positioned amid lush foliage and designed for privacy, with a private pool and a self-contained kitchen. Each has ceiling fans and some have air-conditioning, along with big windows framing sea and mountain views. Bedrooms are upscale and exceedingly spacious, with luxurious beds, private patios or terraces, and tile floors. Bathrooms are roomy, with plenty of counter space and a shower/tub combination. The most formal of the resort's dining areas is in the great house, but it's not the equal of the options available at Half Moon and the Ritz-Carlton. There's also a casual beach cafe, more for convenience than good food. Many clients here are CEOs, so the hotel has opened an Internet room. On other fronts, Tryall is recognized as one of the most eco-sensitive resorts in the Caribbean. Facilities: 2 restaurants; 4 bars (1 swim-up); outdoor pool; championship par-71 golf course; 9 Laykold tennis courts; fitness center; deep-sea fishing; snorkeling; windsurfing; horseback riding; children's programs; Internet room; babysitting; laundry service; nonsmoking rooms; rooms for those w/limited mobility Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. | 1 stars | Frommer's Highly Recommended | |
| 2 stars | Frommer's Very Highly Recommended | |
| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
