Some things do get better with age, and that’s true of this pioneering ecolodge, which is now run by Böëna Wilderness Lodges, owners of some of the country’s premier ecolodges. Rooms are large and cozy, with hardwood floors, orthopedic beds, and a wall of windows or French doors with views of the gardens and forest. Meals are served in a large dining room with windows all around and an open fire burning under a suspended conical steel chimney. There are trails through the lush and beautiful gardens, and there’s a heated outdoor pool with slate decking all around, as well as butterfly, orchid, and hummingbird attractions. These folks also operate one of the best guide and tour operations in the area.
