The owner of Marsala Salsa was born in Trinidad, raised on the cuisine of India, and worked at a Mexican restaurant in Nevada. The result? Marsala Salsa, a hybrid of two international cuisines, both well-prepared at reasonable prices. The restaurant, in a funky storefront in Waterbury's historic downtown, is decorated with a light and culturally ambiguous touch. Mexican entrees include carne asada and bistec picado, strips of sirloin charbroiled with homemade avocado-lime butter. If you're more tempted by the Asian subcontinent, try the curries or tandoori chicken, or wonderful shrimp shaag -- a light curry with sautéed shrimp, spinach, and carrots. It's an unexpected oasis deep behind local culinary battle lines manned primarily by cheddar cheeses and maple syrups.
