Thatcher Brook Inn ReviewOn busy Route 100 not far from the Ben & Jerry's factory , guests here have the illusion they are considerably farther away from this major artery than they actually are. The late-19th-century white-clapboard building has a pleasing historical character, and though it has undergone significant renovations and expansions during the intervening years, these additions have somehow kept the inn's Queen Anne-style intact. The common areas downstairs are worn to a nice patina. Guest rooms are carpeted and decorated with furniture varying from Ethan Allen new to flea-market oak, though the overall character takes its cue from a somewhat fussy country look. Room nos. 14 through 17 are larger and more spacious than most here; nos. 8 through 11 have back balconies that face a wooded hillside. Some rooms have air-conditioning. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
