Frommer's Review
Montréal's Museum of Contemporary Art is the only museum in Canada devoted exclusively to contemporary art, "contemporary" defined here as since 1939. Much of the permanent collection of some 7,000 works is composed of the work of Québécois artists such as Jean-Paul Riopelle and Betty Goodwin, but it also includes examples of such international artists as Richard Serra, Bruce Nauman, Sam Taylor-Wood, and Nan Goldin. No single style prevails, so expect to see installations, video displays, and examples of pop, op, and abstract expressionism. That the works often arouse strong opinions signifies a museum that is doing something right. On "Friday Nocturnes" -- the first Friday of the month -- the museum is open until 9pm with live music, bar service, and tours of the exhibition galleries. The museum's restaurant, La Rotonde, serves such dishes as breast of duck in lavender honey, and has a summer dining terrace.
