Frommer's Review
The name "Hunting and Fishing Club" doesn't suggest fine dining, but this restaurant received enthusiastic reviews after its 2005 opening and works hard to earn them. The short menu seems simple enough until the waiter comes, kneels beside the table, and describes all dozen or so items in considerable detail. Happily, the food is witty in combination. The recent version of what it calls the "new school surf and turf" is a combination of crisp sweetbread, "boulangères," mushrooms and bacon. Time can s-t-r-e-tch between courses, and the animated patrons at other tables underscore the caution that this isn't a place to go alone. Give it a try at lunch, when two courses run from C$20 to C$26 (US$17?US$23/£8.60?£11) and include homemade pasta with Kobe beef stew as a starter. The restaurant's website is a quirky blog of reviews, YouTube films, and other stuff the staff likes.
