Frommer's Review
Step from cobblestone streets into an opulent 18th-century home, with broad dark-wood floors, stone walls, beamed ceilings, copious numbers of Oriental rugs, plush velvet curtains, gold-leafed writing desks, tapestry tablecloths, and four-poster beds made of teak mahogany. This wildly atmospheric inn transports guests to an elegant Breton manor in France, and if you've ever watched Masterpiece Theatre and thought "What I wouldn't give to live there!," this is for you. Public rooms are furnished with original antiques, not reproductions, and the voluptuous dining room, Les Filles du Roy, suggests a 19th-century hunting lodge. Some bedrooms have fireplaces and room no. 6 even has a stone-walled shower stall. New flatscreen TVs are as discordant as Victoria Beckham at Versailles but will be removed upon request. Door locks are awfully rickety; grin and bear it and imagine them as romantic period pieces. An outdoor courtyard with stone walls and a small fountain was converted in 2006 into a terrace for lunch and dinner; it's a wonderful little hideaway. At press time, plans were underway to turn the adjacent parking lot into a star-shaped vegetable garden just off the terrace.
