Frommer's Review
This designer hotel explores the far reaches of minimalism, and guest responses vary from delight to dismay. Design aficionados will love it. With raw, monumental, concrete walls and brushed steel work surfaces, Gault's structural austerity is stark, but it's tempered by lollipop-colored reproductions of modern furniture from the 1950s to keep it more playful than chilly. The sleek lobby with massive arched windows doubles as a bar/café/breakfast area. The large bedrooms on the hotel's five floors are all loft-style to create a home-away-from-home feeling (they start at 310 sq. ft. and go up), and use curtains instead of walls to define spaces. Bedding comes from the high-end Italian company FLOU, and hypoallergenic pillows are available. The first floor "Existential"-category rooms feature the highest ceilings. Tubs aren't available in all rooms, but plush robes are.
