This old resort town in Upper Dalarna is a busy place in both summer and winter, and we find it to be a good base for touring the surrounding area. It's fabled as the town where King Gustav rallied the peasants to form an army to rise up against Denmark. This history-making event is commemorated every year in the 80km (50-mile) Vasa Race. Mora is also the hometown of the once-celebrated Anders Zorn, who is known mainly today for his paintings of nude women bathing. Between Lake Orsa and Lake Siljan, the provincial town of Mora is our final major stopover in the province.
