Frommer's Review
This is one of the old-style grand hotels one occasionally finds in Mexico's colonial cities. Unlike others, this one was not allowed to decay; it's beautifully kept and most impressive. It's also right on the Plaza de Armas. Furnishings vary, but all rooms are comfortable. They have lots of character -- wood floors with area rugs, period furniture, old-fashioned tile bathrooms with tub/shower combinations. Bed choices include two twins, one full, two queen-size, or one king-size. Standard rooms are midsize; of the eight exterior rooms, two have balconies. Suites are large, and master suites have separate sitting rooms. The suite virreinal (viceroy suite) is really grand, with a large third-floor terrace that looks out over the Plaza de Armas to the cathedral. Rooms have double-glazed windows, but traffic noises still leak in.
Facilities:
Restaurant; lobby bar; tour desk; car rental; business center; room service; in-room massage; babysitting; laundry service; dry cleaning; nonsmoking rooms

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
