Frommer's Review
If you're visiting Viktualienmarkt -- and we suggest that you do -- this is a small and intimate dining room that's a good reliable choice for food in the area. After looking at all the delectable foodstuffs that the people of Munich purchase, you will have whetted your appetite. "The Green Goose" stands ready to tempt you with a range of dishes, most of which are Bavarian, although the chefs dip less successfully into an international cuisine, with a selection of some Chinese dishes tossed in for fun. The Bavarian pork dishes are the most recommendable, although you might want to begin with one of the fresh salads purchased directly from the market nearby. The soups are excellent, especially the cream of chervil soup we recently sampled. Many good sausages are offered along with some beef specialties. They also do excellent calf's kidneys in a velvety smooth sauce made with freshly chopped tarragon. Many people in show business patronize this bustling little tavern, as the pictures on the walls testify.
