At this attractive neighborhood bistro, the lunch menu leans toward Italian, but at night the cooking becomes more traditionally French and German. The Italian dishes include homemade pastas, such as spaghetti with truffles, papardelle with fish-ragout, and lasagna. Dinner offerings change often and seasonally, but you’ll typically find fare such as entrecote with arugula salad, grilled fillet of salmon, or lamb in red-wine sauce. Delicious salads (including large main-course versions) and soups are always on the menu, too. Eat on the terrace if the weather’s nice and don’t be in a rush because the service is relaxed and unhurried. Located in a pleasant residential area behind the National Theatre, Gandl is frequented mostly by locals—a good sign indeed.
