Getting There
From New York City, take I-95 to Exit 84 (New London), Exit 86 (Groton), Exit 90 (Mystic), or Exit 91 (Stonington). Or, to avoid the heavy truck and commercial traffic of the western segment of I-95, use the Hutchinson River Parkway, which becomes the Merritt Parkway (Rte. 15) and merges with the Wilbur Cross Parkway. Continue to Exit 54, connecting with I-95 for the rest of the trip. From Boston, take the Massachusetts Turnpike to I-395 south to Exit 75, then south on Route 32 to New London and I-95.
Amtrak (tel. 800/USA-RAIL; www.amtrak.com) runs several trains daily on its Northeast Direct route between New York, Providence, and Boston, with intermediate stops at New Haven, Old Saybrook, New London, and Mystic.
SEAT (tel. 860/886-2631), the regional bus company, connects the more important towns and villages of the district, except for North Stonington.
Visitor Information
Two helpful sources of information are Mystic & More (tel. 800/873-6569; www.mysticmore.com) and Mystic Coast & Country (tel. 800/692-6278; www.mycoast.com). If the many motels off I-95 aren't for you, ask for the folder describing the loosely affiliated Bed & Breakfasts of Mystic Coast, which lists 23 establishments in the area, including four just across the Rhode Island state line.
