This asymmetrical grouping of soaring, silver-skinned wedges provokes the "Wow!" response on first sight, exactly as intended. Every bit the equal of its rival of recent years, the Grand Pequot Tower at Foxwoods, the Mohegan Sun Hotel indulges in jaw-dropping design that begins with the slanting columns arrayed around a reflecting pool in abstract homage to woodland ponds. The front desk is over to the right, the escalators down to the restaurants and shops of the new "Casino of the Sky" on the far side. Rooms, with a minimum of 450 square feet each, are conventionally attractive, albeit utilizing irregular shapes that echo design that was called "modern" in the 1950s.
