Westin Nagoya Castle Review

Situated just west of Nagoya Castle, about 2.5km (1 1/2 miles) from Nagoya Station and Sakae, the chief attraction of this 30-some-year-old hotel -- a local favorite for special occasions and meetings -- is the wonderful views of the moat and castle from its rooms, especially at night when the castle is illuminated. Rooms are spacious enough and feature Heavenly Beds, but it's worth staying here only if you get a room with a view (and for most room types, you won't pay more for that view). Otherwise, the location is rather inconvenient, though courtesy shuttle buses to Nagoya Station once an hour are a big plus, and joggers might like the proximity of the castle grounds and an adjacent park; ask the concierge for its map of a 3.6km (2.2-mile) suggested jogging route.

Facilities:
5 restaurants; bar; lounge; babysitting; concierge; executive-level rooms; indoor 5-lane 25m (80-ft.) pool and Jacuzzi (fee: ¥1,575) w/exercise room and sauna; room service; smoke-free rooms

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
