Getting There -- The fast TGV train from Paris's Gare de l'Est arrives in Nancy after just 90 minutes, making the city a virtual commute from Paris. Many Parisians now visit for le weekend. The one-way fare ranges between 40€ and 50€ ($58-$73). Trains from Strasbourg arrive in Nancy every hour, a one-way fare costing 20€ to 27€ ($29-$39). Special Events -- Serious jazz lovers come to town for 2 weeks in October to attend Jazz Pulsations (tel. 03-83-35-40-86; www.nancyjazzpulsations.com). Some kind of performance takes place every night around sundown in a tent in the Parc de la Pépinière, a very short walk from the place Stanislas. Tickets cost 10€ to 25€ ($15-$36).
