Frommer's Review
If you're looking for a good, healthy, inexpensive meal in the West End, I can think of no better place to send you than Calypso. This casual restaurant is located in a small shopping plaza near the Parthenon and has the brightness of a fast-food outlet (though in the hot colors of the tropics). Rotisserie chicken, in a sauce made from more than 30 ingredients, is the most popular item on the menu, but there are also good vegetarian meals available such as Boca burgers, black bean salads, and pita sandwiches. The Caribbean salads -- such as tropical chicken salad with pineapple and raisins, and black-bean salad topped with beef or chicken, cheddar cheese, green onions, and barbecue sauce -- are among my favorites. Other Calypso locations are at 2279 N. Gallatin Pike (tel. 615/855-1680), 700 Thompson (tel. 615/297-3888), 5101 Harding Pike (tel. 615/356-1678), and a new location to open in Cool Springs mall in 2004.
