Frommer's Review
Whether you're looking for a reissue of an early Johnny Cash album or the latest from Garth Brooks, you'll find it at Ernest Tubb. These shops sell exclusively country music recordings on CD, cassette, and a handful of vinyl records by the likes of Loretta Lynn and Jimmie Davis. There's another location out near Opryland, at 2416 Music Valley Dr. (tel. 615/889-2474); this is where the Midnite Jamborees are held each Saturday night at midnight.
So just who was Ernest Tubb, anyway? One of Nashville's earliest country recording stars, this native Texan known to friends as "E. T." scored a big hit with "Walkin' the Floor Over You" in 1941. The beloved entertainer, who in gratitude to his audiences had the word "Thanks" emblazoned on the back of his guitar, earned a slew of industry awards, played Carnegie Hall, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. After a long and successful career as one of the pioneers in country music, he died in Nashville in 1984.
