Getting There

Fly into Jackson, Mississippi, and drive along U.S. 155 S. to Brookhaven (U.S. 94). Take U.S. 84 straight into Natchez. If you're driving in from New Orleans (trip time: 3 1/2 hr.) in neighboring Louisiana, take I-10 West to I-55 North. Follow I-55 North to Hwy. 84 West and take the third McComb exit, which leads to Hwy. 61 and into Natchez.

Visitor Information

One of the most attractive welcome centers in the South awaits travelers in the spacious Natchez Visitor Reception Center, 640 S. Canal St. (tel. 800/647-6724; www.visitnatchez.com). An introductory film about the city's history provides an excellent overview for tourists about to embark on the area's Civil War-era attractions. Elsewhere in the visitor center, you'll find interactive exhibits, displays, and oversize maps, as well as brochures, a gift shop, and a helpful staff.
