Restaurante Rey Alfonso

Few visitors to the Balcón de Europa realize they're standing directly above one of the most unusual restaurants in town. The menu and decor don't hold many surprises, but the close-up view of the crashing waves makes dining here worthwhile. Have a drink at the bar if you don't want a full meal. Specialties include a well-prepared paella valenciana, Cuban-style rice, five preparations of sole (from grilled to meunière), several versions of tournedos and entrecôte, crayfish in whisky sauce, and crêpes suzette for dessert. You enter from the bottom of a flight of stairs that skirts the rocky base of a late-19th-century mirador (viewing station), which juts seaward as an extension of the town's main square.
