Planning a TripGetting There -- Neusiedl am See lies 45km (28 miles) southeast of Vienna, 359km (223 miles) east of Salzburg, and 34km (21 miles) northeast of Eisenstadt. This town is your gateway to the lake, as it's less than an hour by express train from Vienna (tel. 05/1717; www.oebb.at). If you're driving from Vienna, take the A-4 or Route 10 east. If you're in Eisenstadt, head northeast along Route 50, cutting east along Route 51 for a short distance. It's better to have a car if you're exploring Lake Neusiedl, although there are bus connections that depart several times daily from the Domplatz bus station at Eisenstadt. Visitor Information -- The Neusiedl am See tourist office, in the Rathaus (town hall), Hauptplatz 1 (tel. 02167/2229), distributes information about accommodations and boat rentals. Open July and August Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, Saturday 10am to noon and 2 to 6pm; September to June Monday to Thursday 8am to noon and 1 to 4:30pm, Friday 8am to 1pm.
