Frommer's Review
This hotel is hands-down the best choice on the island. Even so, discerning travelers have detected a problem or two, especially when conventions dominate or raucous families check in. Located on Nevis's west coast, it's set in a palm grove beside Pinney's Beach, the finest sandy beach on Nevis. On an island known for its small and intimate inns, this low-rise resort built in 1991 stands out as the largest and best-managed hotel, with the most complete sports facilities (including a fabulous golf course), and even the best children's program. Designed in harmony with the surrounding landscape, the accommodations offer rich but conservative mahogany furniture, touches of marble, carpeting, and wide patios or verandas overlooking the beach, the golf course, or Mount Nevis. Public rooms are a bit garish, but the spacious guest rooms have generous closet space, full-length mirrors, luxurious upholstery and fabrics, and king-size or double beds. The roomy bathrooms have tub/shower combos, double sinks, makeup mirrors, and Bulgari toiletries. As part of the hotel's most recent renovation, two suites were added for history buffs: the Alexander Hamilton and the Horatio Nelson suites, which are filled with antiques and memorabilia of these two figures.
Guests have the largest choice of bars and dining venues on Nevis. The resort's centerpiece is the plantation-inspired great house, which contains the most formal restaurant, the Four Seasons Dining Room. A special feature is an elegant spa, featuring beachside massages and hydrotherapy. Ever had a mango-sea salt exfoliation and a heavenly hot-stone massage? Even though the beach in front is open to the public, staffers have been known to try to shoo visitors away. If you're shopping for crafts in the on-site gift shop, check the labels -- often the merchandise is not made in Nevis but in such faraway places as Kenya or China.
