Getting There -- From Wilmington, either take U.S. Route 13 south to Delaware Route 273 east to New Castle, or follow Delaware Route 9 south directly to New Castle. From the south, take Route 301 to Route 13 North. (It's a good day trip from Baltimore or Annapolis, too.)

Special Events -- A Day in Old New Castle (tel. 877/496-9498; www.dayinoldnewcastle.org), held the third Saturday in May, gives visitors a chance to tour the town's private homes and gardens, as well as public buildings, gardens, and museums. The Historic New Castle Antiques Show is held in Battery Park the last Sunday in August. A New Castle Spirit o Christmas features house tours, carolers, and carriage rides in mid-December; contact the New Castle Historical Society (tel. 302/322-2794; www.newcastlehistory.org) for details.
