The front bar looks like a scene out of a Dicken’s novel, with deep brown walls, elaborately framed mirrors (hung gallery-style) and serious, bearded bartenders. Out back, it’s a bit more contemporary, with low tables made from tree trunks and a full, and very good, food menu. Drinks are from master mixologist, Pamela Wiznitzer (she’s not bearded) and they are dangerously delicious (you’ll be tempted to order one too many). Lowdown: this place is waaaay too cool for the usually stodgy Upper East Side.
