Visitor InformationChamber addresses and phone numbers are provided for each region. If you're a highly organized traveler, you'll call in advance and ask for information to be mailed to you long before you depart. If you're like the rest of us, you'll swing by when you reach town and hope the office is still open. All six New England states are pleased to send out general visitor information packets and maps to those who call or write ahead. Here's the contact information: Connecticut Office of Tourism, Department of Economic and Community Development, 505 Hudson St., Hartford, CT 06106 (tel. 800/282-6863 or 860/270-8080; www.ctbound.com). Maine Office of Tourism, P.O. #59 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333 (tel. 888/624-6345 or 207/287-5711; www.visitmaine.com). Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism, 10 Park Plaza, Suite 4510, Boston, MA 02116 (tel. 800/227-6277 or 617/973-8500; www.mass-vacation.com). New Hampshire Division of Travel and Tourism, 172 Pembroke Rd. (P.O. Box 1856), Concord, NH 03302 (tel. 800/386-4664 or 603/271-2665; www.visitnh.gov). Rhode Island Department of Economic Development, 1 West Exchange St., Providence, RI 02903 (tel. 800/556-2484 or 401/277-2601; www.visitrhodeisland.com). Ecotourism -- You can find eco-friendly travel tips, statistics, and touring companies and associations -- listed by destination under "Travel Choice" -- at the TIES website, www.ecotourism.org. Ecotravel.com is part online magazine and part ecodirectory that lets you search for touring companies in several categories (water-based, land-based, spiritually oriented, and so on). Also check out Conservation International (www.conservation.org) -- which, with National Geographic Traveler, annually presents World Legacy Awards (www.wlaward.org) to those travel tour operators, businesses, organizations, and places that have made a significant contribution to sustainable tourism.
Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. Please be sure to confirm all rates and details directly with the companies in question before planning your trip.
