Frommer's Review

This inn is about as good as it gets, especially if you're in search of a romantic getaway. Situated on 160 acres at the end of a dirt road in a high upland valley, the inn was built in 1823 as a farmhouse and remained in the same family until the 1950s, when it was converted into an inn. Today it mixes the best of old and new; guest rooms are wonderfully appointed in elegant country style. A number have Jacuzzis or soaking tubs, balconies or decks, and gas fireplaces -- and all rooms have good views. Especially nice: the Jesse Lawrence Room, with its lovely modern soaking tub, writing desk, plush chairs, cherry four-poster king bed, and gas woodstove; and the Forget-Me-Not, which has a similar setup. The game room is the place to gather at night, and the excellent dining room features creative and delightfully arranged cooking; outside, the inn maintains 6 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails.

Facilities:
Restaurant; outdoor heated pool; tennis court

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
