Frommer's Review
Even before Katrina, the presence of the NBA team here was somewhat tenuous -- the former Charlotte Hornets' arrival to occupy the New Orleans Arena starting with the 2002-03 season had more to do with the owner's ongoing dispute with Charlotte officials than with any great Crescent City demand for pro basketball. Remember, this is a town that couldn't even hold on to a team named the Jazz and its floppy-socked star player "Pistol" Pete Maravich, a tenure that lasted just 4 years before a move to anything-but-jazzy Utah in 1979. For the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, the Hornets played most home games in Oklahoma City, to enthusiastic crowds. The league has pledged not to abandon New Orleans (it would be bad PR to cut and run), with a full return for the 2007-08 season in the renovated arena.
