Frommer's Review
Owner Tom Benson, long in dispute with the city about finding a new home to replace the long-decaying Superdome, didn't make any local friends when he started talking up San Antonio as more than merely a temporary location for the team after the flood. Sure, for much of the time since the team entered the NFL in 1967, it's been known to frustrated (but intensely loyal) fans as the Ain'ts. But that doesn't mean the love part of the love-hate equation wasn't the strongest. Ultimately (a shamed?) Benson agreed to put the team back in a refurbished (if severely tainted by recent events) dome. And new love was won with the spring 2006 drafting of two-time Heisman Trophy-winning running back Reggie Bush. Indeed, the revitalized team came heartbreakingly close to their first Super Bowl appearance ever, losing the NFC championship in 2007 to the Chicago Bears. Hopes are high for the 2007-08 season, but only time will tell if Bush will lead the Saints to glory -- or join the storied legacy of such colorful but failed figures as former coach Mike Ditka, former quarterback Archie Manning, and former running back Ricky Williams? A game here means time spent with amped-up fans chanting "WHO DAT?" as they equate hope for their city with the fate of their beloved Saints.
