Martin Wine Cellar and Delicatessen

A gourmet liquor and food store that also has a full-service deli counter, Martin's is one of our favorite fallback reliable places to eat in the city. Unfortunately, ongoing issues require that the original building in Uptown be razed and rebuilt, so it won't be open again for an undetermined amount of time. In the meantime, they have a temporary location on Magazine Street, emphasizing wine with some cheese, and better still, a full location here in Metairie, perfect for a stop as you head to the airport. In addition to the usual deli suspects, they offer about two dozen specialty sandwiches, elaborate concoctions such as the Dave's Special: rare roast beef, coleslaw, pâté de Campagne, and special mustard on rye. Weekdays feature daily specials, gorgeous entire meals that we always regret trying because we are so consistently seduced by the sandwiches.
