Frommer's Review
A block or so off Bayou St. John, some enterprising folks with a good sense of history resurrected a long-boarded-up and once much-beloved po' boy shop and bakery, founded in 1922. It elicits flashbacks from old customers (though the lovingly renovated and spick-and-span interior bears no relation to the grungy last days of its old incarnation) and deep pleasure in just about everyone. Never was that more evident than the evening the intrepid owner reopened, one of the first businesses in his area to do so. About 1,000 locals came out to sample the (then) limited menu of just one po' boy (roast beef), listen to some music, and rejoice. You won't find any innovations here, just classic po' boys (the falling-apart roast beef, and the sine non qua fried oyster have their dedicated fans, while we are believers in the hot sausage and cheese topped with roast beef debris), and many a local-beloved brand name like Barq's and Zapp's. The bar is a good hang as well, lately offering live music many nights, while the bayou remains a pretty walk.
