Frommer's Review
This is seen by some as a small, sweet, and slightly funky inn, very popular with in-the-know regular visitors who think of it as quintessential New Orleans. Some others think it's a total dump. The latter may not be any more pleased by the all-new rooms, but we are. It's just across from the Quarter and a block away from the main drag of the Frenchmen section of the Faubourg Marigny, where all sorts of clubs and happenings make for a lively night scene. Housed in two 19th-century buildings that were once grand New Orleans homes, the rooms vary in size considerably (rooms with two beds are quite large), and some are very small indeed. Each has its own rather eccentric, bright new paint color, plus old timey prints or paintings, and new mattresses. They are a big improvement. First-floor rooms have tile floors, and some rooms have new large TVs. It still smells a bit musty, though, like old Quarter hotels. There is a small, newly cleaned-up pool and Jacuzzi in the inn's tropical courtyard, where you can often find guests hanging out at night, talking over the day's activities, planning what they are about to do next, or just making a night of it right there. They have a carb-heavy (muffins, pastry, bagels) breakfast.
